La Serena

La Serena is the capital of the Coquimbo region on the coast of Chile. The city is known for its long beaches, such as El Faro, with its landmark in the Monumental Lighthouse and its colonial and neocolonial architecture. The Church of San Francisco, from the late Renaissance, is one of the many churches that dominate the city’s profile. The Archaeological Museum exhibits pre-Hispanic pottery and a giant stone head (moái) from Easter Island.
