Flores is a picturesque colonial town located at a small island on Lake Peten Itza, northern Peten in Guatemala, connected by a causeway bridge with the mainland (and nearby Santa Elena). Flores is a beautiful place to rest for a few days while exploring the nearby Mayan ruins such as Tikal, Yaxha, etc. The region’s landscape and climate are entirely different than the volcanoes and mountains surrounding Antigua and Lake Atitlan and the moderate temperatures of the Spring that are encountered throughout the year. By comparison, the zone of Peten is plain and the jungle of Flores is dense. Therefore weather is very hot and humid.
